~LIFE REFLECTIONS~ Sometime, around 1905, in a small town in rural Mississippi calledLearned, Bertha Burnley and Harry Austin Brown were joined togetherin holy matrimony. They lived together on Burnley property where theyfarmed the land and raised their family which grew and prospered. Harry was a builder who used his talents to build several of thestructures necessary for farming and living. Bertha took care of thefamily business and helped with the farming. Together they raised thirteenchildren. Adline’s siblings are: Charlie Colonel Brown (Tad; deceased), JohnnieMae Brown, Harry Austin Brown, Jr. (But; deceased), Mary Sylvester Brown(Ves; deceased), Lorenzo Brown (Skin-deceased), Bertha Brown (Jackiedeceased),Eugene Brown (Honey- deceased), Larene Brown (Red), LamarBrown (Tot; deceased), Waymond Brown (deceased), Glenora Brown andLeola Brown (deceased). After a lengthy illness and the death of Bertha in1929, Harry met and later married Winnie Carter. Winnie had three children bya previous marriage: Elizabeth Carter, Lanell Carter, and Preston Carter.Together, Harry and Winnie had one child, Leola Brown Washington. Adline was born March 14, 1918, the sixth child of Harry and BerthaBrown, in Learned, surrounded by hills, lakes, creeks and farm land.During her childhood days she would cook, clean, and assist with harvesting inthe fields, from sunrise to sundown. She was nicknamed “Sis” by the family,out of earning respect and admiration for being a dependable and responsiblefamily member. As a young girl, her education was at Adams School, and she, alongwith the family, were members of New Salem Baptist Church.During her childhood years, she attended church services, Sunday school, andparticipated in evening programs at other local churches. She was a servant ofthe Lord from the beginning. While helping with the harvesting on the Brown family land, a youngman named Wardell Jackson noticed Adline. They later married andlived on a farm called Joe's Walk, where they raised their four children,Geraldine, Dorothy, Jammie, and Wardell Jr. Adline and Wardell Sr. wereactive members of Issequenia Baptist Church, where Wardell Sr. served asDeacon and Adline served as Treasurer and President of the choir. Adlinealways had a great love for her church and eagerly took on active andconsultative roles for various religious functions. She worked as a CareProvider for relatives, neighbors and her son (Wardell Jr.) during a longdiabetic illness. Her family life was filled with raising a family, maintaining ahousehold, church activities, growing vegetables in the garden, raising farmanimals and making their home a warm and loving place. She also assisted withraising two grandchildren (Carolyn and Daphne) and two great-grandchildren(Lacressa and Jeremiah). Adline was a hard-working entrepreneur. She ran a home businessselling her organically grown vegetables and eggs to people in thecommunity. She also handled the bookkeeping for the home based businessand income properties on their land. As loving people, Adline and Wardell Sr.always made themselves available for family, church members, neighbors andfriends in need of help. On July 9, 2018, Adline was called to be with the Lord. Her husband,Wardell Sr. preceded her in death in 1993 and son Wardell Jr. in 1985.She is deeply loved, missed and leaves behind three daughters, GeraldineJoseph of Wildomar, California; Dorothy Alsobrook of San Antonio, Texas;Jammie Young of Los Angeles, California; seven grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildrenand a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
