Ben Louis Brown was born January 24, 1960, to Sam Brown and Mary Ella Levison Brown in Yazoo City, Mississippi, both of whom preceded him in death. In addition, preceding him in death were two sisters, Shirley Jackson Imbert and Bennie Dean Brown Williams, and two brothers, William Brown and Homer Jerry Jackson.
Ben accepted Christ at an early age at Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was nurtured in the Christian faith. He was mentored during the Civil Rights Movement by Mr. Rudy Shields, whom he admired deeply.
Ben graduated from Yazoo High School in 1978. Following high school, he attended Tugaloo College for several years, where he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Ben joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.
Following military service, Ben moved to Cleveland to be near several of his older siblings. Ben worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cuyahoga County, and the Metal Processing Plant. He returned to his hometown and married Contina Irvine in 2023, and was a disabled Veteran at the time of his passing.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Contina; two sons, Ben Louis Brown Jr. and DeVon Brown of Cleveland, OH; one granddaughter, Mia Brown of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Julia Brown Karimu of Indianapolis, IN; five brothers; Sam (Norma) Brown of Jacksonville, David (Cynthia) Brown of Bentonia, MS, Milton (Deborah) Brown of Cleveland, OH, Donald (Jennifer) Brown of Terry, MS, and Jeffrey Brown of Lawrenceville, GA. In addition, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
