Francis Lee Monston, better known as “Cookie,” was born on May 25, 1951, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to Amos Sr. and Johnnie Mae Collum, who preceded her in death. She was raised in Yazoo City, where she graduated from N.D. Taylor High School in 1969. On Monday, February 16, 2026, Francis transitioned from this life to her heavenly home. At an early age, Francis was immersed in the Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Andrew Brown. Later in life, she joined New King Solomon Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Gregory Robertson. She was a devoted mother to Ronald and Regina Smith. She was a proud grandmother of two, Aricka Smith and Deric Harris. Shequita Green. She adored her great-grandchildren, Oliver Grayson, William Grayson, Kie Green, Jarrik Buckhanan, Bobby Smith, and Raylen Fowler, who brought her immense joy. She had four sisters: Margaritie Collum Brown, Katie Smith, Ruth Easley (Robert), who preceded her in death, and Eddie Mae Kaho. She also had eight brothers: Billy Bullock, Lee Hoye, James Collum, who preceded her in death, Almos Collum Jr. (Rose), Claude Collum (Vera), Willie Collum (Jill), and Calvin Brown. She was a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Francis will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, faith, and resilience. Her love and legacy will live on in all who knew her.
