Frank James Cowans, Sr.
Mr. Frank James Cowan, Sr. was born to Mr. Eli and Mrs. Ida Cowans on February 4, 1951 in Ebenezer, MS
of Holmes County. He was the tenth child of thirteen children.
Mr. Cowans departed from his earthly home on August 23, 2025, in Holmes County, MS, to enter his eternal
rest in the loving presence of the Lord.
Frank confessed his “Love for Christ” at an early age, under the leadership of Rev. Burns, at Pleasant Grove
Church in Midway, Benton, MS.
Frank began his education at Ship School and King Elementary School in Midway, Benton, MS. Later, Mr.
Cowans furthered his education with the Mississippi Job Corps, where he learned the trade of “Auto
Mechanic”, and this trade would lead Frank to become one of the best mechanics in the surrounding area of
Yazoo City and Yazoo County.
Frank took his trade as an “Auto Mechanic” and became gainfully employed with Saxton Auto Parts for many.
many years, and he was the mechanic for the City of Yazoo until he retired his tools, to enjoy spending
time with his family and friends.
Frank loved his family, and he loved dancing, telling jokes, fishing, and working on cars, trucks, tractors,
especially transmissions.
In 1971, Mr. Cowans married Ms. Elsie Henrietta Garrett and from this union eight children were born.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Eli and Ms. Ida Mae Cowans; three brothers: Willie B. Jones,
Luther Cowans, and Edgar Cowans; two sisters: Bessie Mae Lakes and Doris C. Ford; and three grandchildren:
Deginald Jones, DeNaria Swan, and Kendrick Simmons.
Franks leaves to cherish his loving memories eleven children: Leslie Cowans, Vera Simmons, Natalie Cowans,
Paul Allen Cowans, Steven Cowans, and Walker Cowans, all of Yazoo City, MS, Maria Cowans of Vaughan,
MS, Felecia Beasley of Greenville, MS, Frank James Cowans Jr (Amanda) of Clinton, MS; Frederick Cowans
(Thelma) of Kosciusko, MS, and Johnthan Beasley of Mobile, AL; two brothers: Eddie W. Cowans of Battle
Creek, MI and Eli Cowans Jr. of Eden, MS; five sisters: Viola (Leon) Patterson, Gladys Carter, Florshae
Thomas, Alberta Berry, and Linda Harris, all of Yazoo City, MS; thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-one great
grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
My Final Words
Do not grieve for me, my loves, though now I dwell beyond your sight,
Recall our joyous moments treasure, the laughter we shared day and night.
