A Time to Be Born
Mr. Herbert H. Rouser, Sr. was born May 22, 1928 in Madison, MS to the union of the late Lucius Rouser, Sr. and Bertha
Mixon Rouser. He was the 4th of fourteen children.
A Time to Learn And To Serve God
Dad was a life-long member of Ridley Hill M.B. Church. He confessed and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and
was baptized at an early age under the pastorage of Rev. Johnny Carey. He received education at Ridley Hill School and moved
on for more education at a school in Tougaloo, MS. Dad grew up in a Christian home where he was taught to love God and
those around him. Dad was an avid bible reader. He would sit at the dining room table and read his bible for hours. He enjoyed
Sunday School, especially United Sunday School, when churched would meet with other churches on 5th Sundays to study
together.
A Time to Love
In the year of 1948, Dad met a very pretty girl named Rosie Mae Triggs. It was love at first sight. He courted her for two
years. They were married February 5, 1950 at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Gluckstadt, MS. To their union six (6) boys were
born; Herbert, Jr., Johnnie Evan, Lonnie Earl, Artis Dean (deceased July 4, 1975), Isiah Ellis and Allen Cortez.
A Time to Work and Play
Dad was a construction worker with Mosley Construction Company for several years. He was also a farmer, taking us to his
cotton fields to pick cotton and corn fields to pull corn every Summer until we were grown enough to live on our own. Dad
worked us in the fields so we would learn what we wanted to do for a living. Although farming is a good occupation, it was
not meant for the Rouser Boys. We learned our lesson…Thanks Dad!! Dad often teased us saying he wanted enough sons to
start a baseball team. In fact, he would play baseball with us from time to time in the back yard. Dad was a disciplinarian. If
he ever caught us fighting, he would get his belt and whip us…wear us out!!! He did not want his boys fighting each other.
Thanks Dad, we learned our lesson!
A Time to Say Goodbye
Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Dad quietly entered the presence and joy of the Lord, Friday, November 16, 2018 at approximately 2:45 p.m. at the Pleasant
Hill Nursing Home. He fought a food fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith. We love you Dad. We’ll miss you! By the
Grace of God, we’ll see you, Mom and Artis again in the sweet bye and bye.
