Ira Bennett was born December 22, 1942 to the late Evern andAnnie Mae Bennett of Bentonia, MS. To this union, ninechildren were born: Evern James, Margaret (Willie) Porter, BradyLee, Tildon, Mooreless, Valter Valeria (Donald) Boykins, Eva Mae(Bobby) Griffin, Ira, and Annie Muriel (Leroy) Perkins.Ira graduated from Yazoo City High Training School in 1962.He relocated to Chicago, IL, and married his high schoolsweetheart, Willella Berry, whom preceded him in death; and, tothis union, two children were born: Rosalind (Mario) Hagans ofEllenwood, GA, and Derrick Bennett of Morrow, GA. He alsowas the father of Shelia Woodard of Chicago, IL.Ira worked with United Airlines until he retired and relocated toBentonia, MS, for several years. He relocated again to Morrow,GA, with his daughter, Rosalind.He loved and served Jesus Christ at Greenforest BaptistChurch in Decatur, GA.He loved watching TV, especially sports, talking with people,and spending time with his special friend, Clara Colbert.Ira Bennett departed this life on September 20, 2017; and heleaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Shelia Woodard andRosalind Hagans (Mario); son, Derrick Bennett; sister, Eva MaeGriffin; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host ofnieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Daddy's Philosophy was Simple:“Family Comes First, Love One Another,and Always Help Each Other.”
