Lessie Lee Berry was the Bundle of Joy given by God to the late Billie and Ella Berryon March 17, 1931 in Yazoo County. She was the eleventh child born of twelve.She joined the Temple Love M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. C.D. Turner.She was educated in Yazoo County Schools.On December 18, 1947, she was united in holy matrimony to Claudie EugeneKirkland, and no children were born to this union.She relocated to Gary, Indiana, where she joined the St. Monica and Luke Church,where she sung in the choir and also ministered to the needy by providing food andclothing. She loved her duties after retiring from public works. She volunteered at theNorth Lake Methodist Hospital, where she served as a Grandparent, a prayer ministry leaderalong with the Chaplin, and also provided services reading and ministering to the sick. Shereceived a certificate of appreciation for her services. She always did what she had to dowith a smile on her face, because she loved her job.She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudie, her parents; Billie & Ella Berry;seven brothers, and three sisters.On September 22, 2017 at Cottage Grove Nursing Facility in Jackson, Mississippi anangel stopped by and told Lessie, “I know you’re tired; I’ll release you from yourlabor; come on home, and I’ll give you rest.”She leaves to cherish her precious memories: sister, Mrs. Julia Mae Proctor of Jackson,Mississippi, where she resided for 6 ½ years in her care. Julia took her in and tendedto her, with her tender heart and hands, day and night. The Lord gave her strength, and shegave Lessie her all. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins to cherish herloving memories.
