Linda Neomi Sawyer

July 6, 1954 — April 27, 2018

Linda Neomi Sawyer, the daughter of the late Walker and Elsie Garrett, was born July, 6, 1954 in Yazoo County, Mississippi.  She was the fourth of seven children.  On April 27, 2018, she departed this life at the Baptist Medial Center in Jackson, Mississippi surrounded by her loving family.   Linda began her Christian walk at an early age, uniting with Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church where she was a faithful and devoted member.  She had a loving and warmhearted spirit, leaving her footprint on all who met her.  She was best known for her soft-spoken voice and ability to encourage others.   Linda attended Kings Elementary  and Benton High School and later attended Phillips Junior College.  She was employed at Yazoo Industry, Fleetwood Mobile Homes, Inc. and Affiliated Computer Services; and routinely served as a substitute teacher throughout Yazoo County, to include Yazoo City Public Schools.   Linda was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Andrew L. Sawyer.   He preceded her in death on April 23, 1978.    Linda leaves behind brother, Levi Garrett of Vaughan, Mississippi and sisters Gloria Garrett of Jackson, Mississippi, Walker Jean Garrett of Yazoo City, Mississippi, and Amanda Garrett of Vaughan, Mississippi.  Her siblings Henrietta Cowans and Allen Garrett preceded her in death.   Linda’s true calling was to be a mother, and she devoted her life to her family.  She was the loving and supportive mother to Melanie (Demont) Kinchen of Honolulu, Hawaii;  Youlanda (Edward)Trotter of Yazoo City,  Mississippi; Jacqueline Sawyer of Vaughan, Mississippi, and Suprena L. Hill of Byram, Mississippi.  One daughter, Demetrice Sawyer, preceded her in death.   Linda was blessed with nine grandchildren; Tybreisha, Talaysia, Serenity, Antwan, Erin, Isiah, Nazyia, Destiny, and Jadaja.  She also leaves behind, to cherish her memories,  a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.   Linda  will long be remembered for her vibrant smile, kindheartedness, and unconditional love, all of which shone through to the end.
