A Time to be Born
Lula T. (Brown) Garner was born on July 7, 1920 in Satartia, Mississippi
to the late Rev. Andrew Brown, Sr. and Fannie Green Brown. She was
the sixth of ten children.
A Time to Serve
Lula T. as she was called by those who knew and loved her accepted
Christ in 1932 at the age of twelve and was baptized at the Rose Hill
Missionary Baptist Church in Satartia, Mississippi under the leadership of
Rev. George Brown. Lula T. served in many capacities in the church. She
served as Assistant Superintendent for Sunday School, Treasurer for the
Rose Hill Burial Club, a member of the Missionary Society and she
actively served as a Mother until her death. She was a faithful and
dedicated member for eighty
-six years.
A Time to Grow
Lula T. received her education in the Yazoo County School System. She
completed the eighth grade and continued for two more years because
she said there was nothing to do at home.
A Time to Love
Lula T. was united in marriage to Matthew Garner on March 19, 1939.
To this union seven children were born. She was a homemaker and
enjoyed taking care of her family. During her leisure time she enjoyed
reading, quilting, cooking, canning, fishing, shopping, and being with
family and friends.
A Time of Peace
Lula T. departed this life Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. at her home
in Satartia, MS just 32 days before her 98th birthday. Lula T. was grateful
and appreciative for the good, long life that the Lord had bestowed upon
her. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Mathew
Garner, parents: Rev. Andrew Brown, Sr., and Fannie Green Brown, son-in-law: Jake Sutton, sisters; Florence, Fannie, Anna C., Minnie, Sally,
Mary, Eloise and one brother Charlie.
A Time of Departure
Lula T. leaves to cherish her fond memories: four daughters: Emma and
Mary Garner of Chicago, IL, Carolyn Sutton of Saint Joseph, MO, Sonji
(Clayton, Sr.) Foster of Greenwood, MS,; three sons: Clifton (May)
Garner of Philadelphia, PA., Larry and Calvin (Rachel) Garner of Satartia,
MS; two adopted sons: John (Myra) Peterson of Yazoo City, MS, and
Johnathan Nickson of Saint Paul, Minnesota; eight grandchildren: Trenya
Garner of Phildephia, PA, Andre Garner (Adrianne) and Christopher
(Shannon) Garner of Chicago, IL, Michael (Moneika) Sutton of
Lawrence, Kansas, Clayton Foster, Jr. of Greenwood, MS, Marcus
(Kaitlin) Sutton of Saint Joseph, MO, Nicholas Foster of Ann Arbor, MI
and Ebone Garner of Satartia, MS; five great grandchildren: Andre
Garner, Jr., Ari Garner, Chloe McCullum, Tressa Garner, and Clayton
Dallas Foster, III; one brother: Rev. Andrew Brown, Jr. of Satartia, MS;
two sisters
-in
-law: Elizabeth Atkins and Cora Lee Garner of Chicago, IL;
and a host of special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
